  1. Given dimensions: 30" high, 24" deep, 60" wide, 2" thick (made of nylon)
  2. Setup for optimization
    • The legs are fixed to the ground
    • Gravity is the only external load centered on top of the table
    • Keeping the overall leg shape so the outlines are set as preserved regions
    • Cutting the mass down by 80%

Chair Specifications and Assumptions

  1. Material is also nylon
  2. Should fit under the table with room for a person’s legs
    • Cut down by 8" to model a real chair/table
  3. Must have some form of backing
  4. Must be able to hold a 150 kg person
    • Ran an FEA to determine stresses and FOS
  5. Setup for optimization
    • The legs are fixed to the ground
    • The external load of the person is present
    • Cutting the mass down by 60%
    • The outlines of the legs are preserved regions
