MATE ROV

Since the MATE ROV challenge requires an underwater robot, any electronics must be either waterproofed or safely sealed within the robot body. Most of the electronics were to be placed in a central tube that would then be sealed. Previous iterations involved simply stuffing the electronics in the tube and using the bulk of wire to keep the components relatively stable inside. This was messy and not easy to work with.

The new objective was therefore to design a plate that would hold all the electrical components in the tube and be able to slide in and out easily for maintenence.

Initial Brainstorming

This initial brainstorm determines the components that need to fit onto the plate and how they are connected together. From there, it’s determining the best positions for all to not only fit within the maximum possible plate, but also such that wiring is simplified.
